The Technology
The technology of lowering the oxygen level through nitrogen supplementation is being applied by a variety of industry sectors for quite some years now. The agriculture and horticulture industries used it to conserve goods, and the petrochemical industry uses it by applying a nitrogen blanket over flammable materials (blanketing). In that capacity, the technology has proven to be very successful and reliable.
Together with PRESSCON, FX Prevent has more than 10 years of experience with a variety of methods for separating the atmospheric air from oxygen and nitrogen by way of nitrogen generators. The most popular methods are using a membrane filter or a (V)PSA filter. (V)PSA stands for (vacuum) pressure swing adsorption.
An OXIT system consists of a compressor, a nitrogen generator, and an oxygen measuring system. The unit is operated from the OXIT controller. The oxygen levels in the protected areas are continuously monitored by oxygen sensors. Deviating levels automatically start the nitrogen generator. A single system can monitor a total of 48 different areas. The protected areas are equipped with a door display at the entrance, and a strobe light and bullhorn on the inside.
High Performance PSA (HP-PSA)
Using the PSA (pressure swing adsorption) technology, FX and PRESSCON have developed a completely new system (HP, High Performance) that eliminates the drawbacks experienced by traditional PSA systems.
The HP technology distinguishes itself with optimised air flow in the system and a unique press-on system for the active coal. These improvements result in a significantly longer service life and lower energy consumption. In relation to the traditional PSA technology, energy savings is at 30% and in relation to the membrane, it even reaches 50%! The right system can be built for any situation as the systems are built modularly.
OXIT Controller
The brains of the system are made up of the OXIT controller and the Section controllers. This system measures and regulates the oxygen levels in a maximum of 48 different areas independently and controls the HP nitrogen generator(s).
All of the protected areas are equipped with a digital display at the entrances that, amongst other information, indicates the actual oxygen level. The protected areas are furnished with a strobe light and an alarm horn to warn those present for anomalous situations. These situations are also registered by the programmer and forwarded to our service department or to your technical support services. The oxygen measuring system in protective areas translates the partial oxygen pressure measured into a clear indication in percentages for the users. The operating system can be integrated into other systems like a fire alarm system and/or a building management system.
Advantages
Nitrogen is a neutral gas and is environmentally friendly. The nitrogen we require is produced by an HP-PSA generator. Large batteries and gas cylinders are not necessary. The OXIT fire prevention system prevents fires and explosions instead of fighting them. There is therefore no damage resulting from fire/explosion, smoke, fire extinguishing materials (powder), or a standstill of the operating processes.
